About Mary Kobet
Mary Kobet presents from a long standing career in nursing that evolved into the awareness and research of the creative aging/arts in medicine field. Returning to school for an art degree in her 50's led to a study abroad experience at The University of Arts in Poznan, Poland, that irrevocably changed her life for the better.
Discovering Croatian ancestral roots and traveling in Europe over a three year period brought out a love for reflective imaging. Over time, she recognized photography as a spiritual practice, meditative, sometimes prayerful, a medium that can express communion with the miracle of the present moment. For her, it is a means of visually expressing her love of Spirit, elements of design, the amazing beauty of the natural world and sacredness of life.
"There is nothing that makes it's way more directly into the soul than beauty."
"When I recognize that so many of my images make me smile, I know I've lived a rich life."
Photography can record the mili-seconds and decades of our personal history, the big picture and the brief and fleeting.
Mary describes herself as a California/Pennsylvania hybrid, originally from Pittsburgh, PA.
She's lived most of her adult professional life in the San Francisco Bay Area, Monterey, Carmel and San Diego. An enriching two year experience of Hawaii preceded the Pennsylvania return in 2001 for care of family.
After many starts and stops, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2013 at Chatham University, Pittsburgh, PA.
Her passion is the use of art in healthcare, photography as a spiritual practice, and reprinting of digital images onto translucent surfaces and fabric.
